Expanse (EXP) is a permissionless network for developers to build censorship-resistant applications. It uses a tweaked version of Ethereum’s Virtual Machine for executing smart contracts and offers extensive mining and developer documentation to help onboard users.

EXP is the cryptocurrency that is used to operate this entire infrastructure, and while the crypto can be stored offline on a Ledger Nano S, at the moment owners are not yet able to manage the funds directly. This is where the MyEtherWallet comes in. In fact, MyEtherWallet is the only wallet that can manage the EXP tokens stored on a Ledger device.

Today, you will learn how to start managing your EXP stored on your Ledger device with MyEtherWallet. Let’s start!

Before you begin: You will need to have an initialized Ledger hardware wallet, plus the Expanse app already installed on your Ledger device. You also need to have the Ledger Live application downloaded and installed on your device.

Make sure you are using the latest version of Ledger Live.

How to get Ledger and MyEtherWallet connected

Step #1. Visit the MyEtherWallet from the main page here, and scroll until you see the ‘Access Now’ button as per the image below.

Step #2. Next, press the ‘Hardware’ wallet as shown below.

Step #3. This brings up a new window where you need to select ‘Ledger’ and then ‘Continue’ as depicted below.

Step #4. Choose the Ethereum Ledger Live option with the default address, and then click ‘Next’.

Step #5. Keep the network as it is, select an address, then accept the terms and conditions, and finally press on the ‘Access My Wallet’ button.

That’s yet! You are now in your EXP account which you can manage just as easily as if it was with the Ledger Live app.

Conclusion

Like many cryptocurrencies, Expanse is a fast emerging cryptocurrency that is not yet fully supported on Ledger. However, MyEtherWallet provides a means to manage EXP stored securely on a hardware device by connecting directly to a Ledger device. This way, EXP owners can both secure their assets as well as manage them.
